Think Green in the Kitchen

New and stylish kitchens are all the rage and I one friend in particular that has the most trendy kitchen that is used only to collect pizza boxes and chill wine an beer. Well hopefully these few ideas from Bon Appetit will inspire us all to use our kitchens in a greener manner.

  1. Swap the bottle for the box...boxed wine, as opposed to bottled wine, generates half the carbon-dioxide emissions in transport. New technology has improved packaging making boxed wine an acceptable option

  2. Eat more tofu...because of the water consumed to produce animal feed and the water consumed by the livestock, if you replace one pound of beef each month with tofu, you will save 20,000 gallons of water a year.

  3. Become a 'Locavore'...eating food that is produced within a 100 mile radius of your home is a great way of supporting your local economy and reducing your carbon footprint. Go to: http://www.100milediet.org/get-started/map to calculate your own eat-local 100 mile radius.
